Perfume River Tour | Stories of Mother Huong

Huong river has been a source of life for Hue people for centuries. She plays a vital role in shaping the Ancient City Hue from its dawn, when Lord Nguyen Hoang in 1601 was looking for a perfect capital location. Life has boomed along the Perfume River: markets and trade, garden houses and palaces, pagodas and temples,… A kingdom of Dang Trong has started strongly with the peaceful Huong river.

Perfumer River Tour helps you to see Hue from a different angle and listen to stories of Mother Huong. You get to visit Thien Mu pagoda to learn of the city’s origin in 1601. We will take you to immerse yourself in a beautiful garden called An Hien, owned by a mandarin family who carefully keeps this heritage for you to appreciate. In the latter half of you day with us, our story teller will especially walk you through the most important palace of Nguyen Kingdom, the Hue Imperial City.

This relaxing boat trip will fill you with lullaby while enjoying Me xung and other Hue Specialty in Dong Ba market. A perfect Hue Tour for the one who loves to slow yourself in the Ancient Hue!

Perfume River Tour Itinerary | Tour Hue on Dragon Boat

You will be picked up from your hotel in Hue City center by our enthusiastic host today to start the Perfume River Tour. You will be taken to visit firstly the vibrant Dong Ba Market. You can even sample some of Hue specialty in one of the local stalls in the market.

We get to our Dragon boat and travel upstream of Perfume River. Our host will explain to you why it is so called “Perfume” once you land in the Thien Mu Pagoda dock. You will spend an hour learning about Buddhism in the pagoda that plays such a meaning to Hue people.

Back to the boat, you will be taken to visit An Hien garden, an ancient garden which belongs to a family who was from the royal family of Nguyen. An Hien kept the most outstanding “Nha Ruong – Nha Vuon” architecture in Hue with more than 130 kinds of trees, fruits surrounding the wooden house. You will understand Hue people’s characteristics by visiting this unique house.

It’s time for a wonderful lunch at Lac Thien restaurant, a local restaurant served tourists since 1965 by the first two mute and deal generations. They are well-known for the best “Banh Khoai” in town. Vegetarian options available.

Your tour to Hue Imperial City starts after lunch. You will walk with our host through three walls in the old city: Hue Citadel, Hue Imperial City and Forbidden City. The story of Nguyen family will be told during your walk.

We talk you back to hotel in Hue city by taxi ending your wonderful relaxing day with us. Don’t forget to say thank to our Mother Huong when you say goodbye to Hue.

Fantastic Day with Jack
We had a fantastic day with our guide Jack. We did the city tour in reverse as the boats were being used in a festival up river. Jack was a very very knowledgeable guide and a lot of fun keeping our teen girls entertained with some Harry Potter trivia and games in between places to distract from the heat. We booked very very last minute and the team was able to accommodate us so it’s worth using the chat function on their website to see what’s available. They are super efficient. I would absolutely book another tour with these guys. Fantastic!
